indie flicks

Yesterday, I watched four short indie films with MG.  It was by graduating comm. arts students.  Actually, we wouldn’t know anything about it if not for a character in one of the flicks who litrerally ambushed us at the lobby.  He was dressed as a clown, the freaky kind that you see in carnivals.  I hate those.  But since he was really friendly, I didn’t freak out.  It was my two friends margie and nikkie that ran away and even screamed when he went near them!haha!  So it was only MG and I who bought tickets and watched it.

There were four flicks for the price of twenty bucks.  Each flick runs for twenty minutes.  Payaso is about a performing clown and his battle to make himself laugh.  He makes others happy but he couldn’t do it to himself.  Behind his tricks lie a haunting thought.  His son died because of a trick gone bad.  It drove him crazy that he committed suicide.

Balintataw is a psycho flick.  One’s love was pushed to the limit to the point it got him mad.  His wife left him and brought their child with her.  She lets her gay sibling tend to her impaired (mute) daughter while she works as an avon lady.  Across the parlor owned by the gay is an eatery where he loves to eat.  The cook-owner talked to the kid not realizing that she was mute.  The cook and the kid got along well. Rumors started to spread that someone crazy escaped from the hospital five years ago.  Guess what happened??  That’s for you to know…nyahaha!  I loved it. =)

The next flick is about at honest taxi driver that returned a large amount of money in a brown envelope to its owner.  An unfortunate event happened to his daughter and was rushed to the hospital.  I forgot if she had some sort of cancer or what.  He was desperately looking for money.  He asked help from his fellow taxi driver but to no avail.  He went back to that passenger who left her money in the taxi.  She was out of town and he really needed the money right away.  He worked relentlessly.  A passenger asked for a pit-stop to a bank.  She withdrew twenty grand and as he was so desperate, asked her to hand him the money.  She refused to give it and left him a choice he regretted afterwards…he killed her!  Apparently she was a surgeon, someone he needed for his kid.  When he got to the hospital, his kid had passed away.

The last one was entitled tukayo, meaning magkapangalan.  It’s about antonio aka toni and antonette aka tony.  He’s a gay and she’s a lesbian.  Their brothers are bestfriends and so it was inevitable that they see each other often especially when there’s inuman session.  Truth be told, tony was not really into girls.  It’s just that she was boyish.  One inuman session, her kuya went to toni’s room while he was changing his clothes.  He harassed him.  I had a picture what brokeback mountain looked like (may heath ledger’s soul rest in peace).  I still haven’t seen it so if you do have a dvd, borrow naman. haha! He turned to tony for comfort and after a few months, they became a couple.  Odd as it may seem but they found bliss in each other.

After watching all four flicks, I had the dream of becoming a director or what-not.  Basically to work behind the camera.  Typical at predictable lang naman gusto ng mga pinoy.  Maybe it could work out for me. So friends prepare your acting skills, we’ll shoot soon.  haha! kidding!  Try watching indie films, they’re really great.  ‘til then…=)
